Banned Books Week

This week is banned books week. There's an interesting story from NPR on banned books on my RSS feed to the right under NPR Books, entitled: 'Grapes Of Wrath' And The Politics of Book Burning'

Here is a list of banned/challenged books: http://title.forbiddenlibrary.com/

While teaching I had a student whose parents requested a different book because they had objections to the one I was teaching (To Kill a Mockingbird, I think). In fact, they were requesting the board pull it from the shelves.

I chose another one (can't remember what) and had it on a table behind my desk. When that student arrived I told her where the alternative was and she could go get it. The next day she brought the copy of The Grapes of Wrath she had picked up by mistake, adding that her mother said this one was even worse and now they were going to challenge that book as well.
